The Duval Academy is a structured, non-secure residential treatment program that serves 28 males, ages 14 to 18, who have been adjudicated. Youth receive individual and group mental health services in addition to substance abuse counseling services. Select youth participate in "Thinking for Change" (T4C), an evidence-based curriculum that addresses cognitive and emotional needs. The program also provides the "Character Counts" curriculum, which addresses life skills, "Impact of Crime," and restorative justice. These curricula help youth understand the impact criminal activities have on individuals, families and communities. All youth admitted should have approved judicial consent permitting off-site activities allowing participation in job searches and community restoration.

Youth  also participate in gender-specific groups with an emphasis on pro-social character building. Youth are supported and mentored by the NNOA (National Naval Officers Association) on a monthly basis. Annually, the NNOA awards three scholarships in the amount of $500 each to facility youth and facility alumni. The Duval New Beginning Scholarship is awarded to youth accepted to college on any level. While committed to Duval Academy, youth will obtain a birth certificate, a Social Security Identification Card, and a State of Florida Identification Card to ensure employment readiness upon returning to the community.

The Duval Academy provides clothing and hygiene products to all youth. The anticipated average length of stay depends on the youth's pace of success in completing the individualized treatment plan and goals.

Educational services at the Duval Academy are provided by Duval County Public Schools.  The academic setting is a Type 2 program, offering English, Math, Science, Social Studies and one elective course. The elective course is typically used to provide remediation in the areas of reading and math.
