  • Last Tuesday, the Florida Legislature convened the 2017 Legislative Session, the 119th Regular Session since Florida’s statehood in 1845. We look forward to a productive session and will work to educate and inform the state’s policy makers of our good work and the potential impacts of proposed legislation.

  • Last Thursday and Friday, DJJ Director of Research and Data Integrity Mark Greenwald and I attended a meeting of the Steering Committee of Family and Children in the Court (FCC) in Orlando. Together we made a presentation on crossover youth, which are youth that are served by both the juvenile justice system and the dependency system.

  • On Monday, I attended the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet meeting at the Capitol. On the agenda for the meeting was an update from the Cabinet’s Policy Impact Committee Chair Judge Sandy Karlan regarding legislative priorities and the Cabinet’s proposed action plan.
