DJJ Secretary Peterman Kicks Off DJJ Youth Success Week

For immediate release:

Tallahassee -- Recognizing Florida's commitment to protecting the public by reducing juvenile crime and delinquency, Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Secretary Frank Peterman, Jr. visited Tampa to proclaim 2009 DJJ Youth Success Week for Florida, April 19 – 25.

"The best way to reduce juvenile crime is to prevent it, and keep kids from entering the juvenile justice system in the first place," said Secretary Frank Peterman, Jr. "The key to this is the participation of our community partners. Each of us must address the needs of at-risk children in our own backyards. The Department is honored to have the support of our many community partners who embrace this holistic approach to turning around the lives of Florida’s troubled youth."

DJJ and its community partners are commemorating Youth Success Week with events throughout the state. For complete details about the week’s events including county-by-county events, please visit http://www.djj.state.fl.us.

Youth Success Week’s theme, Part of the Community, Part of the Solution, highlights the Department’s role in reducing crime and delinquency through emphasis on prevention, diversion and intervention efforts in partnership with local communities.
